action plan
1. The way I plan on solving the issue of environmental racism is to bring awareness to the minorities that do not realize the harm living near environmentally hazardous facilities is causing them and that they have a voice in the matter of whether they want the facilities in their proximity.
2. The ways I plan on taking action is to take part in or help organize marches and protests as ways to contribute to the Environmental Justice Movement.
3. Perpetrator: Midwest Generation
4. Target: Minorities living in proximity to environmentally hazardous facilities
5. Bystander(s): Environmental Protection Agency, US/State Governments
6. Intervener: Myself, others passionate about the issue of environmental racism, and organizations such as LVEJO (Little Village Environmental Justice Organization) and PERRO (Pilsen Environmental Rights and Reform Organization)
7. My main goal is to bring awareness to the minorities affected by the air pollution caused by the power plants so that more people can help me in the charge to shut down more power plants that are contaminating the air in low-income communities. Getting the help from local organizations will benefit my goal the most because they can help me reach out to the people of my community first. Something that will hinder achieving my goal will be if not enough people care about the issue or do not believe me.
8. One action that I would like to take part in is helping organize a march/protest in Downtown Chicago so that more people can be aware of the injustice that environmental racism truly is. Another action I want to conduct is a silent protest in a way in which I wear a dust mask with the words “No More Pollution” or “I Want Clean Air” on it for a whole day everywhere I go.
9. Goal: Bring awareness to the fact that environmental racism exists and needs to be stopped
Activity: Large protest in Downtown Chicago or a silent protest conducted only by myself
Who is responsible: Myself and possibly an organization such as LVEJO
When: Hopefully during the summer before I leave to college
